Toot toot!
My son has started something that I really hope sticks and other people catch on. The other night, the three of us were sitting in the living room watching TV. All of the sudden my wife and I hear a really big toddler fart. Our little man is standing on the other side of the living room half bent over really forcing one out. As soon as his gas pain was relieved, he looked up at us and said (in a higher than normal register) "toot, toot!" Because he got a good laugh out of us, he has been doing it for every gas expulsion since. Recognizing that gas is a pretty universally (albeit lowbrow) funny thing, I propose that we replace the pompous "Pardon me," and the overly polite "Excuse me," that we feel obligated to say whenever we belch or break wind in the company of others and take a cue from my toddler and have a little fun with it. Next time you let one go and someone else hears you, follow it up with a good hearty "Toot, toot!" and watch the reaction you get.
