My old friend Amber responded to my last posting:
"You say that the other shows still hold up, but have you seen them lately because you seem to find fault with all the others! Like you said, 1969, that's all that needs to be said! And he went into the greenhouse because he was trying to save the girl, he was being selfless, not dumb! Just thought I'd rag on you the way you ragged on all the old shows. Haha. Happy Holidays Greg!"
I respond:
Wow! The vitriol! I never knew you had it in you!
I have been watching to other old shows recently. I have a 2 year old son that loves them! When watched back to back with "The Year Without Santa," or "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," (1964) "Frosty" sticks out as a lazy effort in my mind. I think that the animation could have been a little better and the voice acting could have been a hell of a lot better. In response to your comment on Frosty being selfless... I think that you are wrong. I think that he was being a stupid snowman. If you will recall, the way things played out were Frosty and the little girl were on the train. The girl was getting sick in the refrigeration car, so Frosty leaps from the train, little girl in hand, in the middle of nowhere to brave the elements. Now, not only was it cold, but it was also windy and snowy (bright idea Frosty). I feel that they should have stayed on the train because it may have been cold, but at least they had a destination. It's not as if Frosty knew the greenhouse was there. Then, they come across some animals in the woods that built them a campfire (wtf?). The girl gets warm and magically, her sickness is gone (again, wtf?). Professor Hinkle comes and stomps on the campfire and tries for Frosty's hat. The little girl jumps on Frosty's back and they slide down a conveniently located hill to the Greenhouse, Hinkle in pursuit. They stop at the greenhouse and go in to get warm. Frosty predicts his own fate on the way in. He says something stupid like, "If I stay in here too long, I'm going to be a puddle." The girl was fine at that point. He should have stayed outside which would have prevented Hinkle from locking him inside the warm greenhouse (Where was the proprieter of the greenhouse when all of this was happening?). I think that Frosty was being a dumb, stoner snowman looking for some green plants in the greenhouse... simple as that. Amber... stop defending the snowman. You are only enabling him!
