My uncle responded to another posting of mine, but in the middle of formulating a good argument, I realized something...
But first, I want to ask who remembers this:
YEAH! When you saw that as a kid on your local CBS affiliate, you knew that you were in for a treat. I have not seen that for years and I don't know exactly when it went away. The nostalgia for the old CBS special presentation intro came to me tonight when I realized while flipping through the channels that no one was playing Garfield's Halloween or (the ultimate sin in my eyes) "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." Have they grown too old and become obsolete in today's Pixar and Dreamworks society? I know that the animation is a little scratchy and the humor is a little dated, but damnit, these classics hold as much nostalgic value as Bing Crosby's version of "White Christmas" in my mind. I thought that they were safe. What is Halloween without Garfield chanting "Candy, candy, candy, candy, candy" or that fleeting hope that Linus would get that visit from the elusive Great Pumpkin even though you have seen the cartoon no less that 30 times before and know what happens? Your solution? Buy it on DVD you say? I already own it on DVD. It's not the same. I want the same CBS intro and I want commercials for McDonald's wedged in there because that is the way it's meant to be experienced. I'm too sad to comment on the upcoming election. Maybe tomorrow night after I have stuffed myself with the leftover Butterfingers in my candy dish. Maybe the Butterfingers will fill the void.
