A Frosty Disappointment... a continuation of my recent criticisms of holiday cartoons

Now, I am not looking for logic or reality when I am watching a cartoon from 1969 about a walking, talking, and dancing snowman. With that said, I was very disappointed while watching Frosty the Snowman with my 2 year old son this afternoon because it was not nearly the fulfilling experience that I remember as a child. I think I was a dumb child. The other old Rankin and Bass Christmas productions still hold up. The Year Without Santa Claus, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (the one with the mouse and the giant clock), and Santa Claus is Coming to Town, among others, are still classic must see specials every December. I am still swept back to my childhood when I hear the Heat Miser's song, or when Clarice confesses to Rudolph that she thinks he is cute which in turn sends him leaping into the air, locking horns with Fireball, and losing his false nose, exposing himself as a freak. Frosty is one of Rankin and Bass' few missteps, though. For starters, Frosty is portrayed as a dumb, almost stoner-like snowman with his labored, slow, and slurred speech and his half-assed plans. He took the sick girl off the train to wander around the wilderness looking for warm shelter. They then came across a greenhouse (in the middle of the woods) and Frosty goes in, knowing damn-well he is going to melt. He was looking for something other than poinsettas in that greenhouse. My biggest question while watching Frosty, though, was; Why in the world is the mad magician named "Professor Hinkle"?!? Maybe I am being too hard on Frosty... watch it again and you be the judge. I think it pales in comparison to the rest of Rankin and Bass' body of work.

You say that the other shows still hold up, but have you seen them lately because you seem to find fault with all the others! Like you said, 1969, that's all that needs to be said! And he went into the greenhouse because he was trying to save the girl, he was being selfless, not dumb! Just thought I'd rag on you the way you ragged on the all the old shows. Haha. Happy Holidays Greg!
